Art Exhibition
'16 Pieces' or Principles of the Yoruba Odu Ifa
At the Manchester Metropolitan University Gallery, featuring reflections on the Yoruba Orishas or Odu Ifa by artists such as American musician, Cassandra Wilson and others like Carmelo Gonzalez Guitietrrez Jnr from Cuba, Alberta Pitta Silva from Brazil, Leroy Clarke from Trinidad, Afua Praba from Ghana, Robert Findon from the UK, and Mufu Onifade from Nigeria. The '16 Pieces' project was envisioned as an overarching structure for celebrating the Yoruba sensibility through art in the 21st century.

This event will be held at the All Saints Exhibition area, All Saints Building, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), Oxford Road, Manchester, M15.

On Monday 29th July. curator Lekan Babalola will talk about the exhibition at 7.00pm.

2nd ARD Memorial Lecture
'From Egypt to the African Union' by Robin Walker
'Egyptians spoke a Bantu language' by Ferg S
Swahili expert, Ferg S. explains how he has decoded Egyptian hieroglyphics through an understanding of African Bantu languages such as Swahili and Zulu. Ferg S. recovers the linguistic traditions which link the Egyptians to Africans from East and South Africa and thereby resituates Egyptian civilisation as a by-product and continuation of African civilisation. Before the main lecture Robin Walker will give an overview of African history.

This event will be held at the Manchester Lecture Theatre, All Saints Building, Manchester Metropolitan University, Oxford Road, Manchester, M15.

A Sacred Music Concert at the Contact Theatre, Oxford Rd, Manchester featuring South African trumpeter, Claude Deppa and his band 'Rhythms of Africa' and Britain's foremost Calypsonian, Alexander D. Great.

'MAAT' Mind, Body and Spirit
A Healing Day that commences with a workshop by Cuban spiritual healer, Eva Tarr; writer and broadcaster, Bonnie Greer, will present the findings of her research on the Black Madonnas and the day will conclude with natural healer, Eymb. The event will be hosted by Burt Caesar.

The African Remembrance Day Reception
'The African Union: How will it solve Africa's problems?'

Nigerian High Commissioner, His Excellency, Dr Christopher Kolade, delivers a speech on behalf of His Excellency, Olusegun Obansanjo, President of the Republic of Nigeria, on how the recently launched African Union will help Africa deal with her problems.

This event will take place in Lecture Theatre 1, Geoffrey Manton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University, Rosamund street West (off Oxford Road) Manchester M15.
