In front of the site of the 5th Pan-African Conference, 1945, which laid the foundation for the independence of African and Caribbean States. The 2001 Remembrance Day was preceded by the First ARD Memorial Lecture 'The Significance of the 5th Pan-African Congress' presented by Dr. Hakim Adi and held at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Milestones
2002 Manchester
Manchester Metropolitan University holds series of seven lectures, on the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade and the African World.

ARD Manchester 2001

2001 Manchester
The City Council planted a tree in the Peace Gardens, in memory of the African victims of Slavery.
1998 Bristol
The City Council erected Pero Bridge in honour of Pero, a young African slave. Also, 'Bristol Slave Trade Action' and Bristol City, established the 'Bristol Slave Trail'.

ARD London 1999

1997 Devon
Following the event in Rapparee Cove, Ilfracombe, Devon; the book 'Rapparee - Wreck of the London' was published. Written by local historian Pat Barrow
